It is made&amp;nbsp;from the three most exceptional barrelsin our caves and represents the pinnacle&amp;nbsp;of Willamette Valleyviticulture and winemaking in 2006.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Grapes for this wine were sourced from our Bryan CreekVineyard in the Chehalem&amp;nbsp;Mountains (82%) and the WinderleaVineyard in the Dundee Hills(18%).&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Although storms carrying a lot of rain swept through Oregon inmid-January&amp;nbsp;2006, slowing up pruning work, by the time springrolled around the growing&amp;nbsp;season had caught up to what weassume to be "normal" timing in this day and&amp;nbsp;age. Bud breakoccurred in the third week of March, and bloom about thesecond&amp;nbsp;week of June. Perfect bloom weather resulted in toomany clusters, each with too&amp;nbsp;many berries. Thus, we spentsignificant time doing "green harvest" passes to&amp;nbsp;pare back thecrop to what our climate could actually ripen. Harvest wasaccomplished&amp;nbsp;in near perfect weather, warm enough thateverything ripened smoothly,&amp;nbsp;yet not all at once, with coolmornings for picking, and very little rain.The grapesfor this winewere harvested on September 27 and October 11.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Production of this Vintage 29 Pinot noir followed AdelsheimVineyard's traditional&amp;nbsp;winemaking approach: gentle destemming,cold soak for greater flavor and&amp;nbsp;color extraction, andfermentation in temperature-controlled, open-top fermenters.Thewine underwent secondary, malolactic fermentation in small,medium-toast&amp;nbsp;French oak barrels (36% new) and was aged for 11months.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;This wine was bottled on August 24, 2007.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;PLACE:&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Bryan Creek is a 19-acre Adelsheim estate vineyard&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;on volcanic-origin soils in the Chehalem Mountains.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Owned by our neighbors Jess and Joy Howell, the vineyard&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;is named for a creek that begins on their property.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Bill Sweat and Donna Morris bought the 20-acre&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Winderlea Vineyard in 2006 and renamed it after&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;their home in Vermont. It had been abandonedand was overgrown with Scotch broom and blackberries–someimagination was required to see a vineyard there! But afterclearing and some re-contouring, they found room for 80 acres ofgrapes (mostly Pinot noir, but also a little Pinot gris andAuxerrois) and a new home. In the last years, their vineyard hasbecome our most important source of Pinot noir grapes, withhigh-density plantings of Oregon’s traditional clones as well asall the newer “Dijon” clones. This 2003 bottling is just our thirdsingle vineyard wine from Ribbon Springs Vineyard.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Growing Season:&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;Even in March of 2003, there were signs that it would be anearly year. A warm spring meant budbreak occurred around Easter andflowering took place in mid-June. Once we saw how large the year’scrop would be, we sent our vineyard workers through the rows–oftenmore than once–to thin the crop level enough to ensure richintensity. As the heat of the summer continued into early autumn,harvest came on fast, and was over after just a few shortweeks.&lt;br /&gt;Vineyard Ribbon Springs Vineyard is around the 500-foot elevationon the Ribbon Ridge spur of the Chehalem Mountains. It has a mostlysoutheast exposure with many large, even-sloped vineyard blocks.The soils are sandstone-based, sedimentary in origin; they wouldtend toward drought-stress in August or September, were it not forthe eponymous springs, and a large reservoir, which serves as anirrigation source. Even in its youth, this vineyard gives us rich,approachable, opulent wines with intense red fruit and rose petalcharacter. This single-vineyard bottling is produced withgrapes&lt;br /&gt;from Blocks 1, 21 and 22, which are planted to Pommard clones.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Winemaking:&lt;br /&gt;We harvest by hand and gently de-stem into temperature-controlled,open-top fermenters. These are punched down once or twice a dayduring a 4-6 day cold soak, then two or three times per day oncethe fermentation begins. The wines undergo malolactic fermentationin small French oak barrels (25% new) and are aged in barrel for 10months. Throughout the process, our methods are aimed at increasingcomplexity while preserving the beautiful fruit that characterizesthis vineyard. This wine was blended and bottled in August of2004.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Wine:&lt;br /&gt;The 2003 Ribbon Springs Pinot noir is a showcase of pretty, redfruit characters, subtle oak flavors, creaminess and delicatespice. This wine can be enjoyed immediately, or allowed to increasein interest through 2012. It would pair well with such foods asgrilled salmon, domestic and wild fowl, and other savory maindishes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Label:&lt;br /&gt;Created by artist Bob Bredemeier, this single vineyard designdepicts Ribbon Springs Vineyard and the surrounding ChehalemMountains, with the Adelsheim winery superimposed below.
